2018: Chapter One

Holy snap, January flew by. How is it possible that time seems to speed up even more, every freaking month?! I’ll never understand how that works, but I’ll continue to be baffled each time.

The first few days of the new year were pretty great. On the first, the Kiddo and I took the day off from everything, since He’d stayed up wicked late; we spent that day and night having a blast, and watching one of our favorite movies. It was also the day I’d decided to be done with Facebook, for good. Now, that doesn’t include the occasional post on my craft account’s page (since it’s connected to my personal profile’s account), but in every other aspect of that narcissistic site – I am beyond over it. -_- Hubs came home the next day, a couple hours early (a welcome and awesome surprise!), and we all spent the day enjoying being together again. We also took down our Christmas tree, which – for some odd reason – I couldn’t wait to do this time around. lol. Our weekend was full of fun and work, and a pizza night!

Our first official week of the new year was busy, as usual. Between school, knitting, dog vs. cat chaos, the Puppers getting himself into new (and not-so-pleasant) situations, grocery shopping, online shopping, a couple of rainy days, and the usual home shenanigans – it all went by in a blur. The following weeks weren’t much different, but the weekends definitely were! That is the best part about our two days together each week: we don’t plan anything (unless it’s on the Priority List) – we just do. ๐Ÿ™‚ No matter what day it is, though, there is never a dull moment in our house! Life is full of fun and adventure, and the occasional plot twist; I wouldn’t have it any other way, even when the plot twists tend to be not-so-great as everything else. ๐Ÿ˜›

Speaking of plot twists, we had a handful of them last month. One day, the Puppers got a little over-excited while we were playing, and ended up biting the snot out of my foot. It bruised instantly, and hurt like hell, lol. He has since gotten so much better at the biting issue, though; I’m quite proud and relieved it didn’t take that long to nearly break him of it. My darling BatKid got into trouble for swearing a few days after that, for saying “ass” multiple times, in various ways. He gets a little carried away, too, ha. Once wouldn’t have been an issue, but He’d kept saying it, even after being asked to stop, one right after the other. I’m hoping that was a one-time thing, lol. We had multiple power surges on one of the rainy days, when the rain was coming down pretty hard and the storm was crazier than usual. It was ridiculous, really, as we’ve never had so many power surges until we got this house, especially within such a short period of time. The Puppers had a couple of minor issues with two of his paws, at separate times. He’s fine now, but boy, was it concerning both times. I’m half-tempted to get him shoes! haha. Ohhh, this lady had to take a pregnancy test! Thankfully, it was negative. If it hadn’t been, that would have meant a couple of things: 1) Hubs’ vasectomy failed after over three years, and 2) I’d be at even more risk than I was with BatKid. The relief when the test read “Not Pregnant,” was indescribable, y’all. Unfortunately, now I’m back to square one of another round of “Where Has Aunt Flo Gone?” :/ TMI, I know, but gahhhh. It’s so frustrating! :/ Our two boy Kikis got into a nasty fight one evening. It was terrifying, and shocking, as they’ve never fought like that. They play fight, sure, but this was intense and mean. Thankfully, Hubs was able to break it up without getting too close, and the Boys weren’t hurt. They were irked at each other for awhile, though, even after I’d separated them immediately after the fight ended. I acquired a few injuries over the course of about a week, one of which was due to my own stupidity, lol. I now have a scar on my hand, and I still feel silly for how I ended up with it. The government shutdown was stressful, as usual, but thankfully didn’t affect us, since it lasted only a few days. Unfortunately, I don’t have high hopes that we’ll get past next week without another, ugh. Using many citizens as pawns to achieve the agenda of a few, is positively deplorable – but that’s all I’ll say on the matter. Right before the month’s end, I had to pick up Hubs from work during the wee hours of the morning, as his truck’s headlights had stopped working. It was a wiring thing, not a dead bulb thing, so it wasn’t something he forgot to change out or anything. I ended up not going grocery shopping that day because of the chaotic early morning (and lack of adequate sleep before waking up to his call), and took it easy for the remainder of the day. My final plot twist involves yarn, and my apparent issue with not buying it, no matter how hard I try – which makes the post before last an insanely failed plan, rather than a self-imposed ban. ha!

Aside from all the chaos, so many rad things happened last month. In the crafting aspect, I was pretty successful. I finished the giveaway cowl I made, and made a stitch marker to send along with it. You can view the finished cowl here. The winner, my lovely friend and favorite crafter, Wanda (kalamandah), loved them and made me so happy. ๐Ÿ˜€ I also began The Coziest Memory blanket; the first square was made with the yarn I’d used for my Son’s Christmas beanie, and the second square is made with the yarn from Wanda’s cowl. They’re both worsted yarns, which isn’t the weight in the pattern, but I’m all about switching things up, especially when it involves special yarn! ๐Ÿ˜› I also began knitting Hubs’ birthday present, which is my own create-as-I-go pattern. ๐Ÿ™‚ In the Family aspect, we did our usual fun outings and outside stuff, had a few movie nights (Captain Underpants, The Emoji Movie, and Monsters vs. Aliens), and took trips into town and played with the Puppers together. We had some relaxing time, too, but we stay pretty active more often than not. As for husband and wife time, we watched a few movies together, as well as Netflix. We had to buy a new blu-ray player recently, and it allows us to watch Hulu and Netflix on our TV – which used to happen with the one in our room, until it stopped working in that way. Hubs went away for a week again, as well. No matter how often it happens, it’s never any easier. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I finally watched all three Bridget Jones movies, and I love them! I can’t believe it took so long for me to see the first two, lol. I also finally got some time to chat with my Momma, which was well overdue. The Kiddo and I got some awesome new clothes from Old Navy (yay, sales), and He was so excited to see what I had found for Him! I don’t usually just buy Him clothes without His input, but I knew everything I’d found would be a huge hit. ๐Ÿ˜€ Oh, and my good friend from junior high, celebrated her little one’s first birthday! It’s insane how time flies when it comes to other people’s kids, too. ha.

Overall, January was pretty eventful, even without Hubs being home a lot more. February has already been interesting, so this month’s post will be a fun one, too! Hubs’ birthday is a big deal for me and BatKid, and we can’t wait for that day to arrive – just two and a half more weeks to go! โค

Hopefully this month won’t go by so quickly…ahh, hell – who am I kidding?

Goooooooooals!

I still consider myself an advanced beginner when it comes to knitting, as I’ve only been successfully knitting for going on two years. However, I’m more into knitting than I was when I’d first started (before I learned to crochet). Aside from knitting more than crocheting, I’ve also created my own patterns for different types of accessories…so I guess I can consider myself a designer, too. ๐Ÿ™‚

This year, I want to try three new knitting things.

1. Socks! My first ever sock attempt was…eh. I was a tighter knitter back then, plus it was a baby sock – so I had basically set myself up for disaster from the get-go. I did turn the heel, but it ended there, as I wound up fighting much harder with the tightly wrapped yarn around those tiny needles. I plan to try out a worsted yarn sock pattern first, to see if I can hack it…then go for a sock yarn pattern. At least if the worsted ones end up looking shitty, they can just be around-the-house socks…or maybe dusting mitts? ๐Ÿค”

2. Cables! Good golly, cables are just so gorgeous. I’d recently found a pattern that is perfect for beginner cables, so I plan to start with that. If successful, I may end up making that Greenlee Cowl I’d mentioned in my previous post, sooner than I think! ๐Ÿ™„

3. Brioche! Oh, it intimidates me so! However, I have soooo many ideas for color combos when it comes to brioche; there is no way in hell I can stay away from it. It really is a “must” for me. ๐Ÿ˜Œ

I’m really hoping to have successfully mastered all of the above, by the year’s end. Unlike some, I don’t have all the time in the world to sit and knit all day, every day (I run a household, manage finances, homeschool, and take care of four pets – plus I’m alone more often than not), but I’m certainly going to use as much of my free time as I can, to learn these three things – whenever I’m not enjoying what little Family time we get, reading, or out exploring the wonder that is nature, that is. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Remember, kids:

Can Stop, Will Stop

Before I’d taken an unplanned self-care break from social media in mid-July, I’d post all of the awesome yarn I’d order and receive, basically as soon as I’d get it. When I came back from my nearly three month hiatus, I decided I’d stop posting yarn purchases, not because I don’t want to give the sellers shoutouts, but because I don’t want anyone to feel like I’m shoving it all in their face (which is never my intention, FYI). I know not everyone can just add to their stash like I have over these past few years, and I don’t want to come off as a total bitch when I post about how much I buy. Now, I won’t be buying anymore for a long time – due to personal and financial reasons – but I do want to share what I did buy for the rest of 2017, here. This way, people can choose to look, or choose not to – instead of it just popping up in their instagram feed. So, here’s my warning: >>>Don’t continue reading if you do not wish to see what I’d bought!<<< It’s mostly yarn, sure, but also some other rad items (Orphan Black stuffs, books, and a wicked rad jacket – just to name a few). Now that I’ve covered all of that, if you’re curious – read on!

Two gorgeous orders from TheSheepyshire!
Top photo set: Speckled Sock Yarn Superwash Merino Nylon Fingering Weight – Sour Apple; Pixie Sock Yarn Superwash Merino-Nylon-Stellina Fingering Weight – Hocus Pocus; Speckled Sock Yarn Superwash Merino Nylon Fingering Weight – Punisher; Speckled Sock Yarn Superwash Merino Nylon Fingering Weight – Pumpkin Latte; Sock Stitch Markers – No Snag Set of 6 Mini Rainbow; Sock Stitch Markers – No Snag Set of 6 Volcanic Lava.
Bottom photo set: Super Squishy Worsted Superwash Merino Hand Dyed – London Fog, and Staple Sock Yarn Superwash Merino Nylon Fingering Weight – Stolen Dance.
I literally made a plan to not buy yarn before the big order, but boy, was I happy to break yet another yarn ban to snag these pretties! ๐Ÿ˜›

Two stunning shawl pins from CraftyFlutterbyC! These scream “AJ!” like whoa. ๐Ÿ˜› Now I just need some shawls, so I can use them! I have one in hibernation, and a few planned, so it’ll be awhile, ha.

Some of the raddest pins I’ve ever bought, from AuberginenART! I love the little sweet that came with my order, and can’t wait to find the perfect spots for these awesome pins!

Another fabulous wedge bag from BanaAndBean! I own a few others, but this one…this one is my absolute favorite. It is Harry Potter, after all! The stitch markers are so me (a few of my obsessions, hehe), so of course I couldn’t resist snatching up some! The little treats are much appreciated!

Adventure Time-themed yarn from GamerCrafting! I have yet to see the show, but this Lady Rainicorn yarn was right up my rainbow-loving alley! Isn’t it divine? โค

I also purchased a wicked cool crochet pattern from YarnandThyme! It’s called the Crystal Visions Crochet Vest, and I cannot wait to make it someday. It’s no longer available in her shop (I just discovered that today while attempting to link it), so I’m not including the seller’s photo for that reason.

During Shark Week, I’d learned about Lokai bracelets! I ended up placing a couple more orders later on, as well. These bracelets each have a special meaning and love behind them, and not all of them are mine; BatKid and Hubs also have a shark one, and I gave BatKid the yellow one, since I knew He’d love it. ๐Ÿ˜€ Check out the Lokai store!

Check out this super sweet glow-in-the-dark Batman ring! I can’t remember where in the hell I got it, but it was a good deal and glows so bright! Not to mention, it’s perfect for this ol’ BatMom! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh, Orphan Black – how I love thee! If you know me, you know I’ve been obsessed with this show from the very first preview – before it even premiered in 2013. I’d gotten this book on pre-order as soon as I’d seen it posted on Twitter; it arrived earlier than expected, and I am soooo in love! I ordered it through Amazon, and you should, too! The fact that the real Cosima is involved, makes it that much better. ๐Ÿ˜€

How about these Wevez Sari Skirts?! They come in completely random, surprise patterns – and I LOVE THEM ALL! I scored them on Amazon for a damn good price.

I got my very own Naomi Karate CD! She’s a lovely and talented artist from Idaho, and her music is soooo chill, y’all. Check out her BandCamp site here!

Now for the embarrassing part of this post: I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE WRAPPED YARN IS, NOR CAN I FIND IT IN MY HOUSE! I’m going positively bonkers trying to think of where it can be, and from whom I bought it. I’ve looked everywhere for the yarn, and for the transaction – but they both cease to exist. However, the unwrapped yarn was from a Craftsy kit, for the Greenlee Cowl. It’s a gorgeous cowl, and one I hope to make sooner rather than later!

I splurged on Expression Fiber Arts kits and singles! I’d never gotten a kit before these ones, but the September and October Insider’s Yarn Clubs were impossible to resist! I’ve been into the 1950s since I can remember, so I snagged two of those Decades kits, as well as a skein of Bright Foliage on Dewy DK. Before I’d gotten October’s Halloween-y kit goodies, I’d gotten three skeins of Silent Moon on DK, which I plan to use for a beanie and scarf set for yours truly. October’s order was the Skeleton kit, as well as a skein of the only past Yarn Club colorway to have ever been brought back – The Raven. If you haven’t gotten any of Chandi and Tim’s yarn, I am here to tell you YOU SIMPLY MUST. I can’t get enough of the yum!

Check out the SillySheepDesigns amazingness below! Wanda is one of the very few people online whom I can call a friend, and she’s my favorite dyer, spinner, and crafter! I’d ordered her last skeins of “Ticket to Halloween Town” and “Fireside Pumpkin,” as well as a set of Trick or Treat Trio: Vintage-Inspired Halloween Bell Stitch Markers. The next day, I’d also ordered her Hocus Pocus! Halloween Inspired Pumpkin and Crystal Stitch Markers, and since she was going to ship it all together, she asked if I wanted a refund on the shipping for the second order, or more stitch markers. Of course, I opted for more stitch markers, ’cause HOLY WOW I WANT ALL THE THINGS. She surprised me with the perfect ones, as well as some yummy treats! Thank you so much, lovely! You know me well! Not long before Halloween, I’d ordered her incredible handspun Thick n’ Thin “All Hallows’ Eve” yarn, as well as a From the Pumpkin Patch – Retro Inspired Pumpkin Single Stitch Marker – and she spoiled me again with more tasty Halloween treats! Endless gratitude here, for sure. โค

I now own the perfect jacket. I’m pretty picky when it comes to cold weather clothes, but when I spotted this beautiful Disney villains-themed jacket on Torrid, I knew I had to have it. I even got a $25 discount on it! I could only try it on a couple of times before I could actually wear it, as it was still much too warm for it, but when I finally did get to wear it, I paired it with the best shirt ever, which I’d gotten around the same time! It was a special, limited time only Orphan Black design, and I am head over heels with my new favorite tee. Photo credit: BatKid! He’s so good at taking pictures. ๐Ÿ˜€

Who can resist free knitting needles?! Back when I was still actively using Facebook (I officially gave it up on New Year’s Day, not for a resolution, but because I finally had had enough of that narcissistic site), I saw one of those suggested ads they constantly throw at you. This time, though, it was something in which I was actually interested! It was a special deal on two different lengths of circular knitting needles, totally free, and you just had to pay shipping. It was a less than $30 order, arrived fairly quickly from China, and they work wonderfully! I’m quite pleased with them, and they’ve definitely saved Hubs some money. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Jackson Galaxy recently came out with a new book, Total Cat Mojo. I talked about it in my previous post, 2017, so I’ll be copying and pasting what I said there, into here…because I’m lazy. ha! Let the C&P commence in 3…2…1… Tuesday was Halloween! My Total Cat Mojo book arrived, which I’d pre-ordered as soon as Jackson Galaxy had posted about it on Twitter; upon pre-ordering, I was able to pick a shelter to whom they’d send a free copy, and would also receive a card as a gift at a later date. It was a pretty sweet deal!

I wanted a Halloween project bag, and found the perfect one, by ThreeByTheSeaDesigns. For obvious reasons, my Son is in love with this bag, and the zipper pull is SO ME, y’all!  The treats and extra are awesome, and appreciated!

JPEG_20180110_115207_-844760667

KnitPicks had a big sale not too long ago! Unfortunately, a lot of good stuff disappeared before my eyes as I shopped, but I still managed to find some AJ-friendly stuffs. The yarn will become a cowl someday, and is even more gorgeous in person. Obviously, I’m a cat person, so 9 Lives is meant for me…and sock yarn is the yarn I buy most, and usually want to turn into shawls, so Sock Yarn Shawls is just more perfection!

JPEG_20180110_120130_-918940083

Amazon haul, say whaaaat! Despite Orphan Black being my all-time favorite show in the history of EVER, it took me way too long to get the fifth season once the show ended (*cries*). However, I now own the entire series on blu-ray, as well as all the books that go with The Friday Night Knitting Club. These were my Christmas presents, and they’re Kiki T approved. ๐Ÿ˜›

JPEG_20180110_120546_865991204

I clearly went out with a bang as far as ordering my last yarn goes, and I’m actually fine with not buying anymore for as long as necessary. I really do collect it, so I’m set for a long ass time, lmao. I’m content with all my pretties, and look forward to making all the things with them!
